"You have to work for it." ~ Brian Wilson
Adam Rifkin stashed this in @brianwilson38
Great NYT article on Brian Wilson from October 2010:
A 24th-round draft pick in 2003, Wilson took over the closer’s job in 2008, and his numbers have increasingly improved. Beyond the madness, obviously, is a method.
“He has an outsized personality, but he never brags about himself,” said Bill Neukom, the Giants’ managing general partner and chief executive. “He had an amazing five-out save during the stretch drive, and I said to him, ‘Willie, that was a great game.’ He said, ‘Just doing my job.’ And he means it.”
“He taught me that you don’t get anything for free,” Wilson said of his father. “You have to work for it. Nothing ever comes easy. That’s the way I’ve been, and that’s the way this team has been."
Joyce and I love his positive attitude, even in the face of big challenges.
