49ers confident of 2012 first-round draft pick.
Adam Rifkin stashed this in 49ers!
“You’ve got to be prepared to make the pick at 30, which we’re prepared to do,” Baalke said. “We’ll see how the board falls. We certainly have more than one person, but there is (a player) in particular we feel will be there. And if he is, we’ll be prepared to make the pick.”
Baalke, of course, wasn’t divulging anything more – it could be a punter, he suggested, jokingly – but his revelation would seem to rule out some of the players who have been connected to San Francisco leading up to the draft.
Is he really that ultra-confident, for example, that Stanford tight end Coby Fleener will be on the board at No. 30? Or Baylor wide receiver Kendall Wright? Or LSU wideout Rueben Randle? Georgia Tech’s Stephen Hill?
It suggests the 49ers have a surprise pick up their sleeve – a player they have placed a higher grade on than, say, the teams picking ahead of them. If so, it would mirror last year’s pick of Aldon Smith (above) who was expected to go outside the top 10.
Oh please please please let it be Coby Fleener!!
