Head for the hills. We gaze at them every day, through windshields and office windows, these great green massifs that buckle and break, growing daily and defining our valley lives. And they're all within surprisingly simple reach. Now -- in this brief interlude between March rain and June heat -- is the best time to visit. Their views are not yet hazy with summer smog. The mud has dried along their steep trails, yet creeks still trickle like long cords of silver. And atop each peak are a few favorite wildflowers and gentle breezes.
