It takes 14.67 minutes to get from University Ave. in Berkeley to the Bay Bridge metering lights between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on a weekday for drivers using FasTrak according to a November 2011 UC Berkeley Institute of Transportation Studies. That's 2.7 minutes (18%) faster than a driver paying with cash.
About 50% of the rush hour toll lanes are assigned to cash-paying drivers who make up 21% of morning commuters.
No mention of all the late mergers who clog up FasTrak lanes to skip ahead in the cash-only queue.
