49ers face long odds for Super Bowl return and win
Joyce Park stashed this in The Sporting Life
"In Super Bowl history, only two of the game’s 46 losers have returned to win a title the following year. The last team to do so was the 1972 Dolphins, who were preceded by the ’71 Cowboys. That means the 2013 49ers will be the next team tasked with ending a streak that dates to the Nixon administration."
It's hard to make back-to-back Superbowls, period, because of injuries and because of league parity.
For the 49ers, they have a lot of work to do with their secondary and special teams, and let's not forget that Colin Kaepernick still has fewer than a dozen professional starts under his belt.
In other words, there is much room for improvement AND they have to get a little lucky, too.
Especially since Seattle, Washington, and Atlanta will all be better next year than they were this year.
I remember at the start of the 2012 season none of the pundits thought the Niners would make the playoffs...
