Superbly written piece that debunks your preconceptions about what it's like to go on the traditional two-year Mormon mission.  Even mentions a convert who came to the Latter Day Saints through the unlikeliest of means: the musical _The Book of Mormon_!!!

That, to me, seems the crux of an LDS mission, and of religious transformation: realization of the need for God, of sin we can't root out ourselves, and of our mysterious exigency for forgiveness. The Book of Mormon calls it a "broken heart and contrite spirit." Jesus called it being born again.
