Fred Wilson says the Internet investment market is transitioning.

There are more entrepreneurs building more things on the Web than ever before.

That means more competition for investment dollars and more pitches of startups that want to be "AirBnB for ------", "Hipmunk meets -----", etc.

Best tips for entrepreneurs? Be original. Be useful. Be great.

Liz Gannes reports that Facebook has 800 million active users.

Worldwide there are now over two billion Internet users.

And we're just getting started.

The first two decades of the Web enabled at least a dozen billion dollar consumer Web companies: Amazon, eBay, Facebook, Google, Groupon, LinkedIn, Living Social, Overstock, Twitter, Yahoo, YouTube, Zynga.

I believe the next decade will lead to the creation of at least a dozen more.

5 years ago there were no smartphones. In 2020 half the planet will have them.

Welcome to the Golden Age.

I wonder how long it took for half the planet to acquire telephones.

If only counting pre-wireless landlines, they may not have ever reached hald the planet. See for example:

It took 45 years for 59 million Americans to have telephones, so I'm guessing much longer than that.

I have seen portable information, entertainment, and communications phones. I have yet to see a smart phone.
