October weekend on Lake Tahoe
Joyce Park stashed this in Travel
This assumes you're staying somewhere on the California side of the lake, between Truckee and South Lake Tahoe.
This is a great place to walk, have a drink on the pier and watch the sunset.
Up early Saturday morning to visit Emerald Bay State Park:
Unfortunately the tours of Vikingsholm, an utterly nutballs Viking-style house on the lakeshore, are over by October... but you can still see the outside of the house. Note the sod roof!
Leave the car here and take a bike to the next stop.
Bike down 89 to the Taylor Creek Visitors Center. If you come on the first weekend in October, you'll get to see the Fall Fish Festival, honoring the landlocked salmon and cutthroat trout of Lake Tahoe. Even if you miss that, you'll still get to see fish in their cute Stream Profile Chamber.
When you're ready for lunch, bike next door to Camp Richardson resort for Oktoberfest! Grab a beer and a sausage, maybe get up and do a little Chicken Dance.
On your way home Sunday, stop by the Donner Memorial State Park and Emigrant Trail Museum for the full lowdown on California's favorite cannibals:
Take a hike on the Emigrant Trail to the Pacific Crest Trail afterwards... but bring a snack, just in case.
Haha, bring a snack just in case... funny!
