There are at least three strange things about this article:

1. It was written by the Ooyala CEO, not a founder. He took over Ooyala several years after they started so what does he know about "ground up"?

2. He refers to a Fred Wilson article about retaining employees. When has Fred ever run a startup? He hasn't. He's been a VC for 25 years. So why should we trust his opinions on startup hiring since his job has only been to hire or retain CEOs?

3. In the entire article Jay Fulcher never mentions having an awesome mission or a world changing product. That seems wrong to me.
