My impression is that the last four items are the hardest:
9. Decide who is steering the ship. Someone that has worked with his wife on several businesses told us that it’s important to decide who the boss is and who is the face of the company. They don’t have to be the same person but that needs to be clear.
10. Schedule personal time. If you are starting a new project or business and are serious about it chances are that you are going to putting a lot of hours into it. We just started the Happiness Project Relationship Challenge to see if we can work on improving our personal connection. We also have date night scheduled at least twice/month.
11. If you have children then it will be even more important to make sure that you are making time for them because your time spent with your spouse is going to decrease and it’s possible that the energy needed for your kids may deplete. Choosing family time, which may be always having breakfast or dinner together, a weekend activity, taking the dog for a walk each night where you aren’t talking about work will ensure that the kids don’t feel excluded and you can focus on them.
12. Take time for yourself away from your partner. You may have a relationship where you don’t need to be away from each other but if you are like the majority of people, make sure you take breaks to do what you want to do.
