Instagram ads look like... Instagram photos.

The only differences are that they say "sponsored" and they appear without your following them.

Users can heart and comment on these photos just like any others.

I wonder how effective they actually are.

As was promised, Instagram says that only a handful of brands will be allowed to advertise on the platform (in the beginning), all of which will be familiar to existing users on the platform.
