The uncomfortable racial preferences revealed by online dating - Quartz
Jared Sperli stashed this in inequality
Stashed in: That's racist!
Unfortunately the data reveal winners and losers. All men except Asians preferred Asian women, while all except black women preferred white men. And both black men and black women got the lowest response rates for their respective genders.
Perhaps most surprising is that among men, all racial groups preferred another race over their own. (THIS IS WRONG...White women preferred white men).
AYI analyzed some 2.4 million heterosexual interactions—meaning every time a user clicked either “yes” or “skip”—to come up with these statistics. Its users skew older than Tinder’s—about two-thirds of AYI users are older than 35, according to a spokesperson.
I suppose you could chart the same thing with ageism: identifying how many young women respond to older men--NOT.
Given the stereotypes and having been one myself, I'll still presume young men respond to everything...
Heh. Yes I think they do too.
I love big data statistics. I think the discrepancies would be a more interesting layout. Also, what's the control group? What's the average response percent men to women, women to men?
Black women responding to black men? 9.3%
Black men responding to black women? 16.4%
That's actually an inverse "lowest response rate"
Asian women responding to white men? 7.8%
White men responding to Asian women? 17.6
If my math is correct--and it's usually not--then I'll assume the most likely way of making a match is taking the highest inquiries by the highest responses across all men and women. That would mean Blacks asking Blacks or Blacks asking Asians have the best shot at making a connection followed by Asians asking Whites.
