In His New Memoir, Robert M. Gates, the Former Defense Secretary, Offers a Critique of the President - NYTimes.com
Jared Sperli stashed this in books
Rebuked by the White House:
Actually, Gates said a lot of things that sound right to me.
Obama is less interested in military pursuits than his past actions imply.
And Hillary Clinton is very astute and could make an excellent President.
It's like Obama is setting the stage for Hillary...
there is a part when Gates get disgusted by Clinton taking about how her Iraq decisions were political in nature first and she tried to get Obama to say the same (and partially succeed)
I don't think there's any doubt in anyone's mind that Hillary is very much a politician.
So I take Gates' description of her as a complement.
even when playing politics while acting as a Congresswoman with the country at war?
Politicians ALWAYS play politics. They cannot turn it off. It's who they are.
What if an elected official was something beforehand? Ike?
He was still a master politician.
