Security researchers at Proofpoint have uncovered the very first wide-scale hack that involved television sets and at least one refrigerator.
Yes, a fridge.
This is being hailed as the first home appliance "botnet" and the first cyberattack from the Internet of Things.
"Hailed." Geez, now even our appliances can be attacked!
Appliances seem innocent, but they could really wreck havoc with the population, even just through fear. Say one could gain access to a fridge when it was being built at the factory, place something poisonous inside (mustard gas, arsenic, etc) that can be released whenever the hacker chooses, just a few would freak the citizens out big time.
