Reviews of Avocado, Between, The Icebreak, Couple and Twyxt
Five couples apps offer virtually the same features, and work in similar ways. You invite your special someone to the app and then together you inhabit a password-protected digital space, sharing messages, photos, a joint calendar and to-do lists. These apps differentiate themselves from one another with a signature cute—or, if you're like me, incredibly corny—feature.
So does love really need a special digital space? (There are apps like Pear, that let couples friend other couples, but I'm not going to go there.)
I started out thinking that texting, Facebook, email, shared Google calendars and the plethora of other services were enough. But, as in love, my skepticism melted when I found that one special service that combined the best of all worlds.
