Intellectual Ventures turns out to be neither intellectual nor a venture-type investment. Discuss! Actually this is great news because it turns out the firm decided to start their litigation adventures with very overreaching patents which had now been invalidated. Is that the best you got?

So if I got this story right, this company bought patents up, with the sole purpose of litigation?  There must be some law against filing lawsuits for purely litigious reasons?  and it seems like time is of the essence will come into play a lot here?

Janill yes that's what they did and unfortunately it's totally legal.

The practice is called "patent trolling" and the business model is to coerce companies to license the patents in exchange for not being sued.

Anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason at any time. That's America.

If they keep losing perhaps they will stop trying.
