@hellokro explains what "Gigantic" is actually about:

Has “Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic/A big, big love” been stuck in your head for the last week or so? Me too. Not mad at it. I love the song. And thanks to the latest iPhone 5s advertisement, I’m guaranteed to hear the song multiple times a day. Again, not mad at it. In the ad, a bunch of people use their Apple cellular phones in a variety of non-Candy Crush ways. (My personal favorite: the woman playing her phone like a theremin-y violin. That iPhone 5s, amirite?) (Also? We live in a time when telephones can be used as theremin-y violins. The future is now.)

If the song played by all of the iPhone musicians sounds like “Gigantic” by the Pixies to you, that’s because it is “Gigantic” by the Pixies. (If it doesn’t sound like “Gigantic” by the Pixies to you, I don’t know what that means. Maybe we’re dealing with an inverted sonic spectrum? Again, I don’t know. Let’s move on.) “Gigantic” is on the 1988 album Surfer Rosa, and it was the recently-reunited alt-rock band’s very first single.

Wait, I thought the first time I saw the commercial. Isn’t that song about a wiener? I could’ve sworn I’d read that somewhere, info more than likely stumbled upon during a late-night Wikipedia tear.

I did a quick search, and found that my memory served me well: “Gigantic” is not actually a song about how powerful you feel when you’re using the iPhone 5s. (The song is over two decades old, remember?) According to former bassist Kim Deal, the song was inspired by Babe’s affair in Crimes of the HeartThat ”Gigantic, gigantic, gigantic / A big, big love” chorus we can’t stop humming? It’s about a wiener. A song about a wiener is in an Apple ad!

Thanks, Apple.
