Join the Movement - App.net
Ottway Ducard stashed this in interesting
I think the page has terrible UI.
If I click "back the project" it asks me to chose a username for app.net
Also, I wonder if they considered a $10,000 tier.
Go dalton, go!
They would consider a $10k tier if they had someone who'd offer that.
I don't see how they can get to $500,000 without a $10,000 tier.
I have friends who've done kickstarter. When they had 2/3 raised and wouldn't make the total amount they had a friend pay the last 1/3 to reach project goal and then they gave him his money back and got the 2/3 from kickstarter. What's to stop app.net folks from doing the same or changing the numbers since they're hosting their own campaign?
Nothing but their own honesty.
Well more power to them, they are close. Must be exciting over there at their HQ. as I've said before, the original app.net was a beautiful and well-executed product.
Do you really think they have a shot at a large user base?
Yes, if they build a good mobile app. It'd be like Path, though. Path originally didn't allow publishing, IIRC; now, like instagram, you can push path to Facebook twitter four square and tumblr -- all from one button. In some cases it's easier to do that then to post from each network.
If app.net goes that route; someone builds an app from their API that can push to Facebook and twitter it'll effectively become a more effective twitter/FB client like buffer meets path or tweet deck.
That being said, I don't think they'll go that route.
It's fascinating to see how much more support they have now they reached $500,000. Just shows the psychology of people supporting something once they know it's successful (in this case, the campaign was successful). Kudos to @daltonc and team!
Of 35,138 unsuccessful Kickstarter projects, only 2,026 of them ever reached 41% or more of their funding goal. In other words, only 5.7% of Kickstarter projects that don’t succeed ever manage to reach 40% of goal.
Wow. I had no idea.
