Basically, stricter gun laws lead to lower suicide rates and lower homicide rates.

Two things.  Policies for 23 million people don't always scale to 230 million people.  Second, preventing suicides, while worthy, is not a gun issue.  Preventing crimes against your family is.  Defensive gun use statistics seem to be always actively ignored in these type of studies. 

I think at this point America is 320 million people. 

And you're right that defensive gun stats are inconclusive in Australia from these gun laws.

The article says that several times.
