Turns out that short-term bikeshare users -- aka tourists -- are the most profitable and easiest to cover users of these systems. But persistent problems with hardware and software, as well as financial problems have made it difficult to service the system in New York.
A lot of these ride share systems seem to be plagued with software problems.
