2. La Dolce Vita: Italian

This 1960 movie from frequent director/actor collaborators Federico Fellini and Marcello Mastroianni is now a stone-cold classic, and won the Palme d’Or in 1960. The film charts seven days in the life of a not-particularly-likable journalist in Rome who is battling through an existential crisis while surrounding himself with hedonism and superficiality. It’s a joy to watch, thanks to Fellini’s legendary visual flourishes – and it was celebrated critic Roger Ebert’s favorite movie of all time. What more could you ask for?

Memorable Quote: “Tu sei la prima donna del primo giorno della creazione, sei la madre, la sorella, l’amante, l’amica, l’angelo, il diavolo, la terra, la casa…” (“You are the first woman on the first day of creation. You are mother, sister, lover, friend, angel, devil, earth, home…”)
