My attempt to codify what type of experiment you should run for your startup depending on what you're trying to learn.

Holy moly, there are SO MANY QUESTIONS TO ASK. A small sampling:

  • Who is our customer?
  • What are their pains?
  • What job needs to be done?
  • Is our customer segment too broad?
  • How do we find them?

It's rather overwhelming for a tiny (1-person or 2-person) startup to navigate.

Not too bad if you do them in that order. I find if you actually know your customer, a lot of the harder questions become pretty easy.

How can a person find a customer without first finding someone in pain?

Kickstarter apparently. Those people will buy anything.

Some Kickstarters get bought without a pain point at all. Oculus, anyone?
