"Twin Peaks" is back! After rumors and teasing, Showtime announced that the cult classic will return in 2016 for nine new episodes. The network released a cryptic "special 'TWIN PEAKS' announcement" on YouTube to confirm the news. The airing of new "Twin Peaks" episodes will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the show's two-year run on ABC.

Showtime said in a statement that co-creators David Lynch and Mark Frost will write all of the episodes and Lynch will direct every episode. Per Showtime, "'Twin Peaks' will continue the lore of the original series, providing long-awaited answers for the series' passionate fan base." Rumors also claim that Kyle MacLachlan will be back to reprise his role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper, but Showtime told HuffPost Entertainment that no casting has been confirmed at this time.

“The mysterious and special world of 'Twin Peaks' is pulling us back. We’re very excited. May the forest be with you," Lynch and Frost said in a joint statement. "It is not a remake," Frost told TVLine after the news had been announced. "The story continues. The seeds of where we go were planted where we've been." Showtime will also re-air the first two seasons of the show in advance of new episodes.

Is this for real?! You're not playing with me, right?

Oh, this is so exciting!!

Not playing, I'm super excited too!  Just re-watched the series last year :)  I like that it is going to build of where they left off, rather than a repeat of the old.  Maybe it will go well, and they will do more years.  Hope MacLachlan comes back!  Hope it's early 2016, that's long enough ;)

MacLachlan will almost certainly return. He's said for years he loved being in that role.

They left so many cliffhangers in 1991. How can they just pick up 25 years later?!

Short Recap

Wow, that was good!

Looks like Sheryl Lee (who played Laura Palmer) is coming back and so is Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey):

Cool!  They both look so much older in the video, but I guess it has been 25 years ;)

Yes, and same with the guy who plays Bobby.

I do wonder how they'll pick up the story.

Speaking of which, are you planning on watching the new 12 Monkeys show?

It looks really interesting!

I hadn't heard of it, but it does look interesting, got it Tivo'd ;)

I guess I had seen the 1995 12 Monkey movie (Netflix), gave it 4 out of 5 stars, so a good sign ;)

The 1995 movie was good but the TV show really wants to explore the concept of multiple timelines.
