• You know the UCLA-USC rivalry is intense when their marching bands’ annual flag football game is halted because of larceny and the equipment managers’ flag football game is suspended because of violence.
• For almost 50 years, the UCLA and USC marching bands played a flag football game. That ended in 2000 after the UCLA band’s equipment truck was broken into and all sorts of gear was stolen.
• The Bruins-Trojans equipment managers’ game was stopped for a few years. The 2006 game got rough. Several players required emergency-room treatment, leading to a suspension of the game for a time.
• And people on the East Coast say we’re soft out here.
Actually, it sounds pretty brutal.
