But that fact is nullified and value retained if they are never actually reproduced (to the same specifications and technical aspects).  The particular editions sold in this acquisition seem like 1-of-1 B&W "interpretations"/versions (and the size is not actually described).  The "One" image above was a single shutter click, a single edition print, a remnant of "a singular moment."

Like most art, process/story/sentiment are integral aspects of the value of the final image.  You asking why is like an artist asking why Whatsapp is worth $16Billion

Fair enough. Still amazing that a photo could be worth over a million dollars.
