The New Mexico State University has a chile pepper institute -- talk about studies that benefit the people of the state! -- and they sell seeds! You can get their famous varieties, including the NuMax Big Jim, but also rare and terrifying heirlooms like the Datil pepper of St Augustine, the ají limón of Peru, and the bhut jolokia ghost pepper!!!

Seems like they'd make a fine gift.

All seeds are $6.00/package and contain about 30 seeds except for the Bhut Jolokia, Trinidad Scorpion, and Trinidad Moruga Scorpion seed packages. They are $9.00/package and contain about 15 seeds.
