Boston VC Chris Silva is chief executive of Allied Minds Inc., which specializes in commercializing U.S. university inventions. Harnessing military technology has intrigued him since the 1980s, when he was working on classified intelligence projects for the Air Force. He says he came to believe that military labs were developing powerful intellectual capital in areas such as lasers, advanced material and supercomputing.
