The discussion of Facebook felt more like a post-mortem, a search for lessons learned, than a look ahead.
Facebook is happy because it decreases the chances of a competitor emerging.
"Whew, no competitor will beat us at our own game...so death by a thousand cuts, it is!"
It reduces one risk.
Now Facebook sinks or swims on its own talent, not someone else supplanting it.
