Remember that op-ed in the LA Times that said California only had one year of water left? This is the backstory of that article, including the science used to calculate the findings. Three things:
* The author is a NASA scientist. Republicans in Congress seem to be hell-bent on getting rid of any study of Earth's climate in NASA.
* The author wrote similar op-eds for years before anyone listened to him. You can't predict what makes information go viral.
* The author believes that communicating scientific data to the general public is one of the key challenges of our age.
It IS a key challenge because if you employ science you lose some people but if you don't employ science then you lose some people.
This week Congress slashed earth science budgets:
