This seems to be an emerging field of science with a lot of interesting arguments, but it's not yet clear whether / how much of it will really hold up. If it does, apparently gastroenterology and psychology would kind of merge, with all kinds of implications how we view individual behavior and treat disorders.
There are all sorts of biological affects on psychology that we're just starting to get a handle on. Already one of the biggest pieces of advice given for depression is to exercise and improve your diet. It works quite well!
