Hackers Can Disable a Sniper Rifle â Or Change Its Target
Halibutboy Flatfish stashed this in Fail
I didn't even know there WERE "smart" sniper rifles, but apparently they are a thing, and a thing that can be compromised. The whole idea of putting wifi on a weapon that is lethal up to a half-mile seems... oh heck, I'm sure nothing could possibly go wrong, so why worry!?!? And there's lots of wifi in the places where sniper rifles are deployed a lot these days, so it's super practical!
I see your point. I'm not sure I see the value in a networked weapon except that someone else provides a check and balance to arming and disarming it.Â
If that check and balance is compromised things could go very bad.Â
