We were warned about stuff like this when i was a bank teller. normally when you would be short it would be a round number like 10, 20, 100 bucks and a couple pennies compared to something like 13.87. You always had to be the one in complete control of the transaction. On a different side of the same coin you couldn't let someone tell you what token questions they could answer if they didn't have their ID. Always be the one to do the math and always be the one to ask the questions.
