A top recruiter on what anyone can see after 30 seconds with your resume...
Masha Yudin stashed this in Resume writing advice
Very good advice for resume writing
Ambra Benjamin's Quora answer is good too:
That is actually from her answer - qz. lifted it from Quora with the appropriate attribution.
Got it. Of all the parts of her answer does anything stand out?
The big thing for me is that I want to see that you're a qualified candidate without searching around for it. I want it to jump out at me and I'm not likely to spend more than 30 seconds on the first pass. It helps to tailor the resume to the role.
She actually calls out the time it takes to scan the resume:
- Total time it takes me to do all of above: < 25 seconds.*
So you're most looking for skills? Anything else in those first 25 seconds?
Yeah, she's faster 😀. When I do it I'm typically looking for skills and tools in the most recent jobs. Depending on the industry I also want to see the relevant jobs be those more recent ones.
Skills and Jobs, got it. Then a resume should essentially be those things, easily scannable.
