This is too extreme thinking, almost adversarial. Saying thank you for a compliment to solely acknowledge the good intentions of the giver.... well, "it's the thought that counts". Unless it's a left-handed compliment, I don't think it's up to the receiver to openly mandate, especially with disdain, what they consider 'worthy' of a compliment.
Marlene I agree with you. It's good to be grateful, period.
