5000 miles sounds like a lot to me. Maybe it's not so much to a penguin?

Oh wow, it IS a lot.

I thought the song was 500 miles?

It is.

But I would walk five hundred miles

And I would walk five hundred more

Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles

To fall down at your door

Had to check:  A nautical mile is based on the circumference of the earth, and is equal to one minute of latitude. It is slightly more than a statute (landmeasured) mile (1 nautical mile = 1.1508statute miles ). Nautical miles are used for charting and navigating.

In either of those cases, 5000 miles is a LOT.

I wonder how quickly a penguin can swim 5000 miles. Must take at least a month.

i was wondering the exact same thing, adam!  and a month is a good guess.  maybe that's how long i'll make it in my picture book.

I wonder how you convey 30 days of swimming in a way that's fun and interesting.

hmmmm... we'll see!

Cue BuzzFeed.

thanks for posting this, geege!  i am already storyboarding it!  <3

A hero's journey! A homecoming!

My sister emailed the story and we're embellishing it. :)

you and she are?  what are your embellishments??

Sick sister stuff.  ;)

hahaha!  i was thinking more along the lines of cute sidekicks like hermit crabs and dolphins!
