Gigabit Internet for $70: the unlikely success of California's Sonic.net
C Frank0 stashed this in Fixitfixitfixit!
I've had over 20 different ISPs and Sonic.net is by far the best in the US. Astound is a distant second.
By best, I mean speed, reliability, service. I also have no tolerance for throttling or traffic shaping of any kind.
The only places that come close to Sonic.net were some of the fiber optic based ISPs in Tokyo.
The Bay Area is spoiled for choices though. Lots of places still have only 1 option.
Seriously, we'd love to have this in Redwood City. Or Palo Alto.
Deploying fiber-to-the-home service is a big step. Can't wait!!!
