Lots of interesting answers here.

I think the answer really falls under Occam's razor; certain US assets have documented facilitating the assassination of foreign leaders when those leaders' plans counteract with the plans of United States special interests -- be it politicians, corporations, whomever.

Why would said group of individuals not also be willing to assassinate a US president?

Also, I'm not a history buff; are any of these true about JFK's policy intentions:

"A coalition of forces and persons that were negatively impacted by JFK’s reform policies, including his plans to dismember the CIA, to retire J. Edgar Hoover as head of the FBI, to withdraw all US “advisors” and forces from Viet Nam after presumably being re-elected in 1964, his persuit, along with Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, of an end to the cold war and a comprehensive nuclear missile and warheads reduction treaty beyond the one already signed with the Soviets in 1963, his brother Attorney General Robert Kennedy’s “war on organized crime”, his secret deal with Khrushchev to remove Soviet nuclear missiles from Cuba in exchange for a pledge to not invade Cuba and a subsequent removal of US nuclear missiles from Turkey six months later, and finally a pattern of leaking information to congressional investigations of Vice President Lyndon Baines Johnson for graft and corruption in the Billie Sol Estes, Bobby Baker, and TFX scandals, which would have resulted in LBJ’s indictment and removal from the democratic Presidential ticket for the 1964 election. The OSS (Office of Strategic Services – the predecessor to the CIA), the CIA, the FBI, and the mafia had a long history of mutual support and cooperation, including assassination of foreign leaders, ever since Thomas Dewey helped engineer the deal with Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky for Luciano’s release from prison and deportation to Italy in exchange for the mafia’s support in the allied invasion of Southern Italy, and the subsequent installment of mafia dominated local governments throughout Southern Italy. All of these elements had a vested interest in replacing JFK with their man, LBJ."

Is there any chance the evidence from the 1960s will be released to the public anytime soon?
