The Gates Foundation is guided by the belief that all lives—no matter where they are being led—have equal value. Whether a child is born in New York or New Delhi shouldn’t pre-determine their access to health, education, and opportunity. Of course, this belief is simple to say, and much harder to achieve. But our ultimate goal is to reduce the world’s greatest inequities, so every person has the opportunity to live a healthy, productive life.
This will be his legacy.
It's a really big mission.
How can Gates Foundation do what governments can't?
It's a dictatorship pretending to be a bureaucracy. if Bill Gates says "we're solving polio," or 'eradicating malaria," or "fixing education" he and his family dictates what happens.
I'm sure there are legal controls, since it's a foundation and some kind of managerial structure, but let's be honest: it's a dictatorship -- what he says goes.
Which is why China is eating America's lunch. When you don't have to worry about "the guy or gal on the other side of the aisle," it makes a huge difference.
Government is inefficient because a) it has to protect against corruption b) checks and balances c) we're a (special-interest, lobbying, PAC-driven) democracy.
Democracy is not efficient.
