The greatest anonymous community vote in Web3 history is being led by the Ethereum Layer 2 network, Taiko, and the largest cryptocurrency hacking movement, DoraHacks. Through the Taiko Grant Factory Hackathon, the organization seeks to promote decentralization in community governance. In order to foster innovation, interactive apps, and projects with practical applications, the Taiko Grant Factory Hackathon aims to unleash the creativity of developers. The finalists are now entering the voting phase, one of the most significant steps yet toward extensive, community-driven decision-making, following months of fierce competition.
Minimal Anti-Collusion Infrastructure (MACI): Revolutionizing Digital Voting
Vitalik Biterin, a co-founder of Ethereum, first envisioned the revolutionary privacy-preserving and collusion-resistant voting mechanism known as Minimal Anti-Collusion Infrastructure (MACI), which is at the heart of this vote. MACI is Ethereum’s solution to addressing the basic problems with conventional voting systems, which Vitalik has long highlighted: fraud, collusion, and privacy leaks. The best MACI product the market has seen was supplied by Dora Factory, the decentralized governance protocol, which carried Vitalik’s aim.
Taiko’s Grant Factory Hackathon will use MACI to conduct voting in its final round totally on-chain, guaranteeing encrypted ballots, zero-knowledge proof integrity, and defense against vote buying and collusion. With timestamps recorded on-chain, users will cast their votes via smart contracts, ensuring a private yet transparent procedure. The result will be disclosed by the designated operator by the end of the voting round to ensure fairness and credibility. Taiko is offering 50,000 trailblazer points to participants as incentives, which they can translate into an airdrop in the future.
Ben Wan, the community director of Taiko, stated that it was decentralization in action. He expressed that they were thrilled to bring MACI to that scale and were grateful to the community for participating in Taiko’s growth. He also mentioned that the future of Ethereum was decentralized and that they were there to make that happen together.
This isn’t just a big vote; it is a historical one. With over 920,000 participants anticipated, this event marks the largest whitelisted anonymous community vote in the history of Ethereum. The scale of participation underscores the significance of this vote and its potential impact on the Ethereum ecosystem.
According to Steve Ngok, a Partner at DoraHacks, they were incredibly excited to work with Taiko on launching the biggest MACI-powered vote in Ethereum history. He mentioned that DoraHacks and Dora Factory had committed resources to expand Ethereum’s mission by advancing MACI for decentralized governance and privacy protection. He expressed that they looked forward to exploring MACI’s full potential alongside Taiko and its dynamic community.
About DoraHacks
DoraHacks, a worldwide community that supports hackers and provides infrastructure for Web3 development, was launched in 2014. It serves as a platform for hackathons and coding competitions, where developers tackle real-world problems and have the chance to win prizes. DoraHacks also offers incentives to help developers build innovative projects.
The community has supported over 4,000 initiatives and acquired more than $30 million in funding in the last 9 years.
