Seth's Blog: How to make money online
I like this one Eric #21 "This is not a zero sum game. The more you add to your community, the bigger your piece gets" and #6 "Don't worry so much about the 'online' part. Instead, figure out how to create value. The online part will take care of itself" - if you take your business "offline" and think of its real mission - have you still got a business?
Some businesses ARE online-only. What is offline Twitter? No such thing.
That said, you're right that #21 is a keeper. Businesses are best when there's value-add on top of the basic service or product.
This is why we like Internet businesses that encourage user participation!
Ah yes Panda... but ... if you take Twitter off line what would it be ? What is its mission? What I mean is, if you boil down the business model to its very core what does it leave?
Twitter's mission is communication:
Find out what’s happening, right now, with the people and organizations you care about.
So I guess offline Twitter is some combination of CNN and Fox News?
Twitter is not only communication but also interaction. Relationships + Content. It is what people crave.. and why it is so successful ...we are always looking for new ways to interact with people in "meaningful" ways.. ("meaningful" to us) ...
Then there is no offline equivalent -- newspapers? CB radio? Writing letters?
ah yes Panda- there is - the good ole cuppa and a chat !
My favorite is #20:
"Learn. Ceaselessly. Learn to code, to write persuasively, to understand new technologies, to bring out the best in your team, to find underused resources and to spot patterns."
The more you learn, the better you'll do.
Yes. Do, do, do. It pains me when I look back on portions of my life and think there is little to show for it. I beam with pride when I can look back and see how much I produced/accomplished.
I try to explain to looking-forward-me how important this is to looking-backward-me. He doesn't always listen even though he is destined to become looking-backward-me...
