Last ever Calvin and Hobbes comic strip
This is not actually the last ever Calvin and Hobbes.
It's a parody from Joey Devilla.
According to Wikipedia (which is never wrong):
The 3,160th and final strip ran on Sunday, December 31, 1995. It depicted Calvin and Hobbes outside in freshly fallen snow, reveling in the wonder and excitement of the winter scene. "It's a magical world, Hobbes, ol' buddy... Let's go exploring!" Calvin exclaims as they zoom off over the snowy hills on their sled, leaving, according to one critic ten years later, "a hole in the comics page that no strip has been able to fill."
Having said that, I like the following response to the above strip:
i cut that last comic out of the newspaper and it is still pinned to my board in my old room at my parents' house. browned and crinkly. a close friend of mine and i performed calvin and hobbes in forensics duo in high school. turning a cartoon into a 10 minute play was an awesome experience. i love calvin and hobbes and i cannot wait to introduce them to my boys.
Your boys are lucky because all 3160 comic strips are available and purchase-able in book form.
Remember when we had to wait for each new one to drip out, one a day, for years?
It always gave me something to look forward to the next day.
i have had those massive volumes since they first came out. i still have most of the regular books, too.
That's awesome. I keep meaning to go back and read them again.
I wonder if years between reads will drum up the nostalgia within me.
Thanks, I didn't have that link.
Today's comic is apropos to childhood and adults: http://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/2012/07/11
