Only 2 of 18 Presidential Innovation Fellows Are Women - But So What? - Forbes

Agree or disagree?

Clearly, the White House made a concerted effort to select the most qualified people for this program for the benefit of the American people. It’s hard to draw many conclusions from the small percentage of women in the program, especially considering the size of the applicant pool and the tough requirements for the program (such as the ability to quickly relocate to Washington.)

Yes – there are less women than men entering careers in technology. But just like research has shown men are less interested in teaching pre-school, women are generally less interested in pursuing careers in software development.

It seems that the real discussion should not be about this gender gap, but why we, as a society, care more about this gender gap than the other.

Disagree.

Kelly Clay writes: "Why do we never ask more men to consider becoming school teachers (86% are women) – and why is there no outcry for schools to train more men as nurses (89% are women)?"

The problem is that technology affects everything -- education and health care and everything else.

Science and Technology need more people in general if we are to take on the biggest problems.

Having fewer women means having fewer people taking on the biggest problems.
