Tribune Endorsement: Too Many Mitts | The Salt Lake Tribune
If you've spent even a day in Salt Lake City, Utah, you know how shocking this is.
Wow, just wow.
Basically, they are calling him Anakin Skywalker --- the once favored son, who has turned to the dark side.
If only Mitt would tell people what he actually believes...
In short, this is the Mitt Romney we knew, or thought we knew, as one of us.
Sadly, it is not the only Romney, as his campaign for the White House has made abundantly clear, first in his servile courtship of the tea party in order to win the nomination, and now as the party’s shape-shifting nominee. From his embrace of the party’s radical right wing, to subsequent portrayals of himself as a moderate champion of the middle class, Romney has raised the most frequently asked question of the campaign: "Who is this guy, really, and what in the world does he truly believe?"
If Mitt let us know what he stands for, he would probably get enough votes to win.
He did this to himself.
It's not too late. He can still sacrifice himself and bring balance to the force...what that looks like IRL, I don't know.
I think he believes in his Mormon faith and the principles that faith espouses. I suspect he's genuinely a conservative republican, who swings from one extreme to the other because he's a shrewd businessman.
And just imagine, for all the criticisms, he's actually rather close to achieving his dream.
Does that say more about him or about us as Americans?
What it says about him is that he wants us to trust him without us knowing what he's actually going to do.
What it says about us as Americans is that Mitt is the political candidate we deserve.
Obama is the guy we need right now.
That we couldn't run a great candidate against him shows how hard great candidates are to find.
Well, you have to be well-connected, either a senator or governor, know a bunch of wealthy folks willing to put up $1bn towards your campaign, and have an inscrutable background.
That narrows down the field to ... basically everyone who has run for president in 2008 and 2012 with the exception of the likely 2016 candidates.
Really, how HARvarD can that be?
Is that there is no one to run against Obama or that most smart Republicans would rather wait this one out? 1) Tea Party 2) Obama's campaign machine...2016 looks a lot better probably
Truth.
I actually have no idea who the Dems will run in 2016.
The only front runner I can think of is Hillary, and she might not want to run.
Well, Biden has hinted at it, but no. Hillary may. Mark O'Malley is a good contender. Andrew Cuomo too. Rockefeller? We may see a few non-governors and non-senators too...maybe a mayor like Cory Booker (probably still too young in 2016 but a rising star)? A surprise Gavin Newsom from California for the strong liberals?
