New Digg vs Reddit vs BuzzFeed
Three very different approaches to content worth sharing.
New Digg employs authorities, such as Scientific American.
Reddit employs democracy, and prefers first person writeups.
BuzzFeed employs editors, and is mostly celebrities and lolcats. It has more traffic than the other two combined.
9gag is mostly rage comics, cosplay, and lolcats. It also has more traffic than New Digg and Reddit combined.
Pinterest is mostly cupcakes, couture, and lolcats. It also has more traffic than New Digg and Reddit combined.
PandaWhale has two audiences. The one responsible for all the intelligence is into startups, health, travel, finance, wine, lifehacks, and growth hacks. The one responsible for all the traffic is into animated gifs, celebrities, legos, videogames, outer space, hot athletes, home and garden tips, happiness, and lolcats.
I still wonder if these two audiences are long term compatible.
We've always wanted PandaWhale to be long tail on content. Like Twitter and Blogs.
Nobody expects PBS to beat Comedy Central in ratings. :)
But sometimes Fox News beats Comedy Central in ratings..
