How Pinterest Is Killing Feminism
"On Pinterest, you'd never know that sites like Jezebel and Feministing had hit the internet. "Thinspo" and pro-eating disorder content may be banned on Pinterest, but the site is filled with images of Victoria's Secret models wearing bikinis and other cellulite-free, idealistic bodies."
As a species, we're visually oriented more than anything else, and as a woman your identity tends to boil down to what you look like (granted, this is true for men as well, but women are the gender that's objectified). Pinterest is reflecting the reality of the world we live in, and as a site seems to have been designed as a web scrapbooking service the majority of the content will thus be less text and more images.
How's that saying go, a picture's worth a thousand words?
If that's true then Pinterest has billions of words.
Criticisms aside, do you like using Pinterest?
Nah, it's like Pandora to me, I see how it works and why people like it, but it doesn't actually provide me any real value because I would have to expend so much time and energy into making it a habit. And I don't really have much time to spend on fine-tuning my experience to make it a habit.
I hear ya. I do use it but it's not important to me. Just fun and entertaining from time to time.
