'A disproportionate reward system...' and bigger money makes for bigger fraud. They also say that increase in scientific fraud tracks with increase in the public's ability to accept lying in certain situations and ask for forgiveness later---if caught.

Economics would suggest that there are many incentives to lie.

Ethics would suggest that lying scientists value themselves greater than they value a world of truth.

That's disconcerting given that scientists should be truth seekers.
