Sorry about that, CollegeHumor is on our "to do" list.

I'm so bored with Instagram.

Instagram was cool until it synced up with facebook. Since fb's not hip, it rubbed off on Instagram, since that's totally how popularity works.

Actually, Instagram seems used by more people now.

But it has gotten more boring as more people are using it.

Why? I enjoy seeing what my friends are doing.

Instagram is what I wish Path could be: most of my friends in one place, sharing stories of their lives.

Creates an incredible ambient awareness affect. As hilarious is the video is, these things are significant.

Planes. Coffee. Ducks. Signs. They have some inherent meaning: travel -- going from one place to another; meeting -- creating new bonds or strengthening old ones; experiencing -- catching a moment of joy or irony in life; exploring -- the new places we visit, and the old ones we revisit again and again.

Instagram is magic; I finally "get" Instagram. It is about telling your story, for an audience. Perhaps that audience is yourself, for posterity. Perhaps that audience is thousands or millions. Perhaps, like most, that audience is a small group of friends who like and comment on each other's instagrams.

I think Instagram is one of the most powerful tools of 2012.

It's used by more people, but those people are for lack of a better word, boring. Explore on Instagram used to reveal really stunning/arty photos, and now maybe 2 or 3 of the 12 photos displayed will be something interesting.

The people who are actively using Instagram are from what I've observed the same people that are still super active on facebook, and cross-promotion for them means they'll take pictures on Instagram just to then blast them on facebook, in lieu of a status update because as the saying goes, a picture's worth a thousand words. Since I was already bored on facebook because those folks were the kind of people who updated their facebook status with "LOOK AT ME I NEED ATTENTION I AM EATING/DRINKING/PARTYING, DON'T YOU WISH YOU WERE ME?!?!" their photos are just a visual map of that lifestyle.

People's increased activity on both facebook and Instagram is good for them, and good for the people using them, it just doesn't translate to being that great for me anymore.

I'm never bored of my friend's and family's lives; I hope they don't become bored with mine.

I ended up accepting friend requests from people that I wasn't particularly close with/cared about (they fall into 2 camps: old high school classmates and random acquaintances I've met through other means). Why? Because I felt like I would be a jerk if I didn't, and even though I've tried minimizing how much junk I see at some point I got tired of filtering out what was meaningless to me since it seemed pointless. So sure, sometimes I see updates from people I really care about, but most of the time it's just fluff. It also doesn't help that some of the people whose important updates I'd want to see generate a lot of posts period, and the majority of them I'd rather not see. Some of my aunts are notorious for doing this, I don't want to completely ignore their posts because they reside in other countries, and it's highly unlikely I'll see them anytime soon. However, I still don't want to see their 10th cute baby picture/inspirational quote photo post of the day. I get it, facebook and the internet are new for them and it's awesome that they can share everything, but that's mainly the reason why I've turned into an anti-social hermit as far as social networking sites are concerned. I don't want to contribute to the aggregate sludge of useless posts, and those people who are important to me will get to know if anything's changed in my life because I've chosen to notify them directly. The rest of the world can find out about it if I ever decide to put it on facebook or whatever.
