There were only 3 million websites in 2002??
On another note, I thought these stats were interesting.

Web growth in 2010
Before we go into the details about each web server, here are some
key numbers for how the Web changed in 2010, courtesy of Netcraft:
- By the end of 2010, the Internet had a total of 255 million websites.
- Compared to 2009, that’s an increase by 9%, or 21.4 million websites.
So basically, the number of websites doubled in the past 2 years from 2010 to 2012. So by way of prediction, either it'll level out where we are now or double to 1 billion by the end of 2013.
There were only 3 million websites in 2002.
In 2002 there was no Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, Tumblr, or Reddit.
It does feel like the number of websites doubles every 2 years.
Amazing.
