"Most entrepreneurs don't start with perfected ideas or plans -- they discover them. Entrepreneurs think of failure the way most people think of learning."

Make countless small bets to discover what works. The real genius is in the approach.

Thank you to @aaker for the link!

I like his advice that we need to unlearn linear planning and perfectionism so that we have room in our startups for the imperfection that leads to discovery.

Very interesting!

Especially the notion that embracing imperfectionism allows startups the room to maneuver and to discover.

unlearn what you have learned grasshopper

How will I know that I've unlearned properly? There's no test that measures unknowledge!

learn how to learn...

That's awfully meta. How about if I learn how to learn how to learn?

This is great -- it's clearly a learning process. I think one of the keys to good entrepreneurship is knowing when you have a hot hand and continue to push it forward. Like if you have a joke that resonates, exploring it to make sure you have the best joke.

There's a real tradeoff that happens all the time when you have a hot hand.

No one wants to destroy the thing that got the product and company to that magical place.

And yet, it's so hard to know what can be changed, removed, or evolved without hurting the magic.

It's a very delicate balance. It's like walking on a tightrope.

@ifindkarma makes no sense... most people are terrified of failure....

Most people are terrified of LEARNING.

Most entrepreneurs don't succeed.

And by studying and following what most entrepreneurs do we are creating a nice hand me down recipe for failure, by axiomatic proof.

From what I understand (which might to be 100% true) the unicorns and super unicorns didn't pivot from their original ideas... they just got lucky in their idea at the right time and right place to make them real.

Good for the lucky sperm club!

A little luck goes a long way, Rob.

I'm with you!  I love what Jimmy Dean once said,

"You gotta try your luck at least once a day, because you could be going around lucky all day and not even know it."

It's better to know! I concur with Jimmy Dean. The sausage guy?

Yep, actually he was a country music singer and an actor before the sausage business was bringing home the bacon...with Fess Parker as Daniel Boone on TV and Sean Connery as James Bond in Diamonds are Forever on the big screen...

Wow! So he came after the 1950's actor James Dean? Even more interesting!

Oh, sorry, didn't realize you were confusing this guy born 1931,

with this guy born 1928,

Jimmy Dean actually came before James Dean...c'mon Adam, they're not even looking in the same direction!

Haha but they both are black and white so they may as well be the same person!

I know, I also think it had to do with all the hair gel..."Cookie, Cookie, lend me your comb..."

Heh heh. And here I was thinking the first guy looks like Brad Pitt.
