An introduction to focusing: Six steps
Tina Miller, MA,CFLE stashed this in psychology
I think the most important step is clearing a space:
What I will ask you to do will be silent, just to yourself. Take a moment just to relax . . . All right – now, inside you, I would like you to pay attention inwardly, in your body, perhaps in your stomach or chest. Now see what comes there when you ask, "How is my life going? What is the main thing for me right now?" Sense within your body. Let the answers come slowly from this sensing. When some concern comes, DO NOT GO INSIDE IT. Stand back, say "Yes, that's there. I can feel that, there." Let there be a little space between you and that. Then ask what else you feel. Wait again, and sense. Usually there are several things.
Wow! I'm glad that you like it! That's so nice to hear!
I did. I find it helpful to breathe through my nose when I'm doing this exercise.
Did you just start doing Focusing today?
No, but your framework has applied whenever I've focused in the past, too.
So there was something that you were doing in the past, and this label "Focusing" seems to apply to it-- si that right?
I myself don't feel it in my tummy or chest. I just feel it in my whole being. I can't really tell you where. But I think that I'm still Focusing-- do you think I'm Focusing?
Yes, you're focusing. It's a form of meditation that takes you out if your routine.
And yes, I've done a form of this in the past. It's very helpful.
Yes, thank you. You sounds very confident, and I hope you're right. I glad that you find Focusing so helpful! So Adam, are you following me on Twitter @TinaCFLE ?
I am now, Tina!
Believing is at least 80% of making it so.
Yay! (:-> Nahhhhh! I don't believe in that "believing is achieving" huey! (:-P
It's not all of it but it definitely is one of it. Can't start without believing.
Yes. Believing it is POSSIBLE is necessary, but not sufficient.
I don't think that the believing part is 80%.
Ok, but it's at least something between 0% and 80%.
LOL! Well, thanks for that acknowledgement!
Anytime, Tina. I'm happy you found PandaWhale. You fit in well here.
Thank you for saying that! And Focusing is one of my favorite healing processes!
